An Axe From The Past

Axe from the Past heritage quest starts when you complete the little tarby lost from the giant named Obsid Boulderboom. He is located on the small island populated by the giants that are level 28 ^^^ and you will need the giant language to talk to him. The giant language is only obtainable by killing giants and examining the totems that they drop.

Once you have completed the little tarby lost quest he will give you a reward which you will examine to begin your quest. An Axe From The Past is not particularly hard however you will need access to a special zone of cove of decay in order to complete it. The access quests begins with you rescuing two centaurs, completing a quest for the chief in the centaur camp near cold wind coast and ends with one final quest.

When you examine your reward from Boulderboom you will begin the quest An Axe From The Past which is a great item for scouts and tank classes. After examining it you will be tasked with finding 10 pieces of pristine granite which can be mined from wind swept stones. The last time I did this quest it took four to five nodes to give me the 10 pieces so it may vary from person to person doing this quest. If you are lucky you might get some rares off these rocks which healers and casters can use to get adept III spells. However Thundering Steppes requires you to have a harvesting skill of 90 in mining to harvest the wind swept stones. If you don't have that amount you will need to head to Antonica to level up your harvesting skill before you can harvest in the Thundering Steppes.

Once all 10 pieces of stone are harvested you will need to head back to your preferred tradeskilling area and make the weapon in question. Upon examining the axe head you should have received a recipe and you will need to scribe it into your recipe book from your inventory. You will also need a sparkling item and if you were lucky enough you got one during your harvesting expedition for the 10 pieces of granite. If not you can usually buy them off the broker and any type of sparkling material will do since the quest was updated recently.

Now that you have your axe made into a weapon you will need to talk to Boulderboom again. The axe is a fine weapon indeed however it needs a good sharpening to make it truly effective and the best way to do this is to kill skeletons. You will need to sharpen the blade on 100 skeletons that reside in the Thundering Steppes area but you don't have to use the weapon to kill the skeletons. Every skeleton you kill will give you an automatic update and if you do this in a group it shouldn't take very long to do so.

With the axe sharpened to perfection you will now head back to boulderboom who will instruct you to kill 25 skindance gnolls. This is a test of your skill and will require extra help if the gnolls are not greyed out to you. After talking to boulderboom you will have a timer placed on you in which you have to kill the 25 gnolls in however the timer is 20-30 minutes long. If you have a good group you should be able to dispatch each gnoll in 20 seconds or less with the gnolls falling quickly. Don't forget if you are Qeynosian side to use your gnoll master's strike because it will make it a bit easier on you.

Twenty five dead gnolls later you will head back to Boulderboom who will be impressed with your skill in being able to kill that many gnolls in that amount of time. He doesn't want you to get hurt however he will divulge the information of the last enemy you need to slay. Your final foe will be the infamous Octogorgon whos blood will imbue the axe with great power. The Octogorgon resides in a special instanced version of the Cove of Decay and is why you did the access quest before hand. It is also good to get the manastone quest "Stilleto's Orders Intercepted" because the mob you need for your first update is in there as well.
