This heritage quest is for an earring that is quite useful if you aren't a healer class. It starts from a named barbarian and I assumed you need the barbarian language primer in order to talk to him. The primer can be found in graystone yard for good or scale yard for evil from the local scribe for a measly twelve silver pieces. The barbarians name is Kerath McMarrin who resides on the docks in the Thundering Steppes zone. McMarrin will give you a tale about this person named Hrath and how he had this unique item with McMarrin wanting it. McMarrin will send you off to find Hrath's journal in order to understand where to begin searching for this mysterious item.
The journal can be found in the bell tower of Vhalen in Antonica which is located along the middle southern mountain side. It should be located on your map and if it isn't asking your fellow player can help you locate it fairly quickly. Once you obtain the journal and read it you will head back to McMarrin who will determine a good place to start the search. Your first place will be along the Nektulos river and you will start at the bridge near the Common Lands entrance. Now you will swim from that bridge up to Timber Falls until you receive an update. You won't find the earring there and will now have to proceed to search the ocean waters of the Common Lands. The best location to do this is around -860 -152 -982 until you receive your update. It may require you swimming down deeper so be prepared to go down quickly search then come up for air to prevent your character from drowning.
Searching this little plot of area you will receiveanother update with you not being able to find the item in question. The last place to look is the western ocean of the Thundering Steppes where you harvested the ore for the strange black rock quest. There is a ship past the one you harvested the ore from that will give you the update that you require but after receiving the update a monster will spawn. The octopus is not tough and doesn't have to be killed to receive another update or keep the one you got from the ship so you can run away. With your search of the sea over it is time to go after someone or something that may have the item in their/its possession.
Your first target will be Lord Everling who resides within the dark castle of Nektropos. Nektropos castle requires that you complete the A Calling In The Forest quest before you can enter it and I believe everyone needs to have completed it in order to enter. However I am not 100% certain on that part because many things were revamped in Nektulos Forest and the access may have received a revamp as well. Once inside you will need to head down to Everling completing a quest about the six lockets of Everling's daughters to go to him. But if you have a friend or guild mate that has already done this after the Nektropos revamp they can quickly take you to Everling without having to go through the trouble.
After dispatching Everling you will have to kill Hrath T'Vol which is a skeleton in the Sorcerer workshop in Ruins of Varsoon. Luckily this is an automatic spawn and does not require you to do any camping what so ever to make him appear. The corpse will divulge the information you require and after killing him you will get the update you need allowing you to return to McMarrin with the information. McMarrin will then tell you to find a pirate by the name of Captain Krieger who is North of McMarrin's location on a little embankment near the gnolls. Approaching this area will spawn Krieger who will spout some gibberish and after killing him you will return to McMarrin with empty hands.
As a thank you for your efforts McMarrin will reward you with the Fish Bone Earring which is a nifty item. When you equip the item it provides water breathing to you which is helpful on different types of quests. Congratulations on completing the Fish Bone Earring quest from Kerath McMarrin and successfully completing another heritage quest in EverQuest 2.
