True player epic weapons were introduced with the fourth expansion to Everquest 2 (Rise of Kunark). At the moment there are two versions of epic weapons. There are the group obtained weapons (Fabled Version) and the raid obtained weapons (Mythical). You must be level 80 to receive the quest starter for your class epic weapon.
